Reboot!

I know what you’re thinking. Does the word need another blog? Another voice whispering into a hurricane? Something else to subscribe to? The answer to those questions is “no.” Yet, here I am. Some unseen force compels me to do this like the creepy entity communicating with Lottie in the wilderness in “Yellowjackets.”

I’ve had two blogs. The first one, Upstream of Consciousness, ran from 2010-2017. The other was on the author website I launched in 2018 to draw people to my self-published novel. I ended the website (RIP) at the beginning of 2024 in an effort to…well, what exactly? As a writer, finding a place to establish myself has proved challenging. Hindsight being what it is and all, ending Upstream of Consciousness seems like a bad idea. I had established a whole vibe there. A voice. The author site was an attempt to create a brand but that fell flat. Marketing yourself in a world filled with so many others doing the same is hard work.

The truth is, though, I like blogging. It’s fun for me. Regardless of readership, posting my thoughts quiets the noise in my head and scratches the creative itch. Honestly, if blogs had existed during high school days in the 1980s, I would’ve posted daily. Maybe even multiple times daily. My friends would’ve been inundated with my thoughts on “Mr. Roboto,” The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, or my mixtape collections.

RANDOM THOUGHT: It occurs to me that the topics that interested 16-year-old me still hold my attention at 57. Oof.

Another hat tip to giphy

Anyway, I’m going to blog again. Those who read the old stuff will hopefully follow me here on this journey. Hopefully, new connections I’ve made on social media and in life will give it a look. And that’s really what this space is about. Making connections.

This new space shall be titled Metaphysical Furniture, which sounds like either a progressive rock band from the 1970s or an album put out by a progressive rock band in the 1970s. I’ll post here the way I used to on the old blog. Pop culture stuff. Thoughts on movies, television, books. Current events. I like to write about coming of age in the 1980s, so you can bet I have some new reminisces to share. Oh, and I have another novel coming out soon. This is where I’ll share more about that. I know what you’re thinking. Does the world need another self-published novel by an unknown author? And do we need to endure marketing of said novel? The answer to those questions is, of course, no.

And, yet, here I am. Again. The wilderness compels me.
